“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts.” — Psalm 139:23 (NRSV)
📖 Devotional Thought
.The wilderness isn’t always external. Sometimes it’s the internal quiet corners of our hearts we avoid. The places we’ve masked, minimized, or misunderstood.
Psalm 139 is a bold invitation. David doesn’t ask God to fix him, he asks God to know him. That’s intimacy. That’s healing.
Throughout Scripture, God meets people in their inner wilderness:
Jacob wrestled in the dark with his identity.
Hannah wept silently in the temple, misunderstood but seen.
Peter wept bitterly after denying Jesus—and was restored.
God doesn’t flinch at our complexity. He doesn’t recoil from our rawness. He enters it. He searches us not to shame us, but to stay with us.
For neurodivergent hearts, inner silence can be loud. But God doesn’t fear our wiring. He meets us in the unmasked places with grace, not judgment.
💭 My Story
There are parts of me I’ve learned to hide. I’ve been told I’m “too much,” “too sensitive,” “too intense.” So I learned to mask, to shrink, and to perform.
But the wilderness stripped away the performance, and I couldn’t keep up the act. But in the quiet, I met myself, unfiltered, unfinished, and afraid.
I remember sitting in my room one night, overwhelmed by thoughts I couldn’t organize and emotions I couldn’t name. I whispered, “God, do You still want me like this?”
And I felt it, not a fix, but a presence..
God didn’t ask me to be less; he asked me to be honest.
🌱 How I Incorporated It
I started journaling without filters. I wrote what I was actually feeling, not what I thought I should feel. I let God into the raw places.
I created a “truth wall” with sticky notes with affirmations rooted in Scripture. Phrases like:
“I am not too much.”
“God delights in me.”
“I am fully known and fully loved.”
I also began praying differently, less polished, more real. I’d say, “God, here’s what I’ve got today. It’s messy. But it’s mine.”
And every time, I felt Him say, “That’s enough.”
✍️ Journaling Prompts
What parts of yourself do you avoid facing in silence?
How might God be inviting you to explore your inner wilderness?
What truth do you need to speak over your quiet places?
🙏 Closing Prayer
God, search me. Not to shame me, but to heal me. Help me face the quiet parts of myself with courage and grace. Show me You are already there. Amen
🌅 Sneak Peek: Day 7→ Coming Out of the Wilderness
Our final reflection will honor what we carry forward. The wilderness doesn’t erase us—it refines us. And we emerge leaning on our Beloved.
