This verse is a quiet crescendo. After a journey through longing, separation, and intimacy, the beloved emerges from the wilderness, not triumphant, but tender. She’s not standing tall in her own strength, she’s leaning.
The wilderness doesn’t erase us, it refines us. It strips away performance, reveals truth, and deepens intimacy, and when we emerge, we don’t come out the same, we come out leaning.
Throughout Scripture, those who walk through wilderness seasons often emerge with new posture:
Jacob limped after wrestling with God.
Moses glowed after meeting God on the mountain.
Jesus returned from the desert ready to begin His ministry.
The wilderness is not the end, it’s the beginning of something truer.
💭 My Story
I didn’t come out of the wilderness with a polished testimony. I came out with fragments ah new language, with a deeper trust in my own wiring.
I came out leaning, not because I’m weak, but because I’m learning to live unmasked.
I remember writing in my journal, “I don’t need to be fixed. I need to be held.” That became my mantra. The wilderness didn’t fix me, but it helped me stop hiding. It taught me that healing isn’t always loud, sometimes it’s quiet, sometimes it’s slow. t’s just knowing you’re not alone.
And what I carry forward is this:
I am not too much.
I am not too broken.
I am beloved—exactly as I am.
🌱 How I Incorporated It
I created a “carry forward” list, truths I want to hold onto:
God speaks softly, but clearly.
Stillness is sacred, not stagnant.
I am allowed to lean.
I also wrote a letter to myself from the wilderness. I read it when I feel like I’m slipping back into old patterns. It reminds me of what I learned, what I survived, and what I now believe.
I began practicing “leaning prayers”, short, breath-sized prayers like:
“I trust You.”
“I’m not alone.”
“You’re holding me.”
I stopped trying to stand tall all the time, I let myself lean. I discovered that leaning is holy.
✍️ Journaling Prompts
What has the wilderness taught you about God?
What has the wilderness taught you about God?
What part of your identity has been refined through this season?
🙏 Closing Prayer
God, thank You for walking with me through the wilderness. I don’t come out the same—I come out leaning. Help me carry forward the strength, wisdom, and intimacy I’ve found. Let me never forget that You were with me in the silence. Amen.
