Discovering the Strength God Grows in You When You Stop Carrying Everything Alone

📖 Scripture (NRSV)

Ephesians 3:16

“I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit.”

A woman sits at a desk by a large window at sunrise, her hands clasped in quiet reflection beside an open journal, a laptop, and a mug of coffee. Warm golden light fills the room, creating a peaceful atmosphere that conveys prayer, trust, and finding strength in God's presence during life's overwhelming moments.

🌱 Devotional Reflection

I used to believe strength meant handling everything on my own.

The harder life became, the harder I pushed.

When I felt overwhelmed, I worked longer. When I felt uncertain, I tried to solve every problem myself. When I was exhausted, I convinced myself I just needed to try harder.

One morning, I opened my laptop to write a devotional, but instead of focusing on the blank page in front of me, my mind was already running through everything else I needed to do. My coffee had gone cold beside me while I replayed unfinished conversations, unanswered messages, and problems I kept trying to solve on my own.

I opened my Bible to Ephesians and read Paul’s prayer that we would be “strengthened in our inner being.”

I stopped reading and sat quietly for a moment.

I had spent years trying to strengthen everything around me while neglecting what was happening inside me.

I was trying to manage my circumstances instead of letting God meet me in them.

I was treating every problem as if the outcome depended entirely on me.

No wonder I was tired.

That morning, nothing changed about my circumstances.

The responsibilities were still there.

The difficult conversations still needed to happen.

The unanswered questions remained unanswered.

What changed was the way I carried them.

Over the next few weeks, I slowed down in the mornings instead of rushing to my to-do list.

I paused before reacting when something unexpected happened.

I stopped checking my phone the moment I woke up.

I started bringing my worries to God instead of replaying them in my mind at two o’clock in the morning.

I became less self-critical on days when I didn’t have all the answers.

Life didn’t suddenly become easier, but it no longer felt like everything depended on me.

I stopped measuring my worth by how much I could accomplish in a day.

I stopped believing I had to hold everything together all the time.

Instead, I began trusting that God could hold what I could not.

That is the wealth God has been building within me.

Not a larger bank account.

Not a longer to-do list checked off.

Not the appearance of having it all together.

The ability to rest without guilt.

The courage to ask for help.

The freedom to admit when I am struggling.

The quiet confidence that I do not walk through life alone.

If you are exhausted from carrying more than you were meant to carry, I wonder if God is offering you the same invitation He offered me.

Slow down.

Take a breath.

Bring your burdens to Him.

You do not have to solve every problem.

You do not have to earn the strength you need.

You do not have to carry everything alone.

God is with you, even here.

✍️ Journaling Prompts

  • What am I carrying today that I was never meant to carry alone?
  • Where do I rely on my own strength instead of God’s?
  • What would it look like to slow down and let God meet me where I am?
  • What worries do I keep replaying in my mind instead of bringing to God?
  • How have I experienced God’s strength during difficult times?

🤝 Call to Connection

Think of someone who may be carrying more than they can express.

Send a text. Make a phone call. Offer a prayer.

You never know how much a simple reminder that they are not alone could mean.

And if this devotional spoke to your heart today, I’d love to hear from you.

What is one burden you need to place in God’s hands?

Share in the comments so we can encourage one another.

🙏 Closing Prayer

Lord,

Thank You for seeing the burdens I carry, even the ones I rarely speak about.

Forgive me for the times I have tried to hold everything together in my own strength.

Teach me to release what I cannot control and trust You with what feels too heavy to carry alone.

Strengthen my inner being with Your Spirit.

When my mind races, bring me peace.

When I feel overwhelmed, remind me that I do not have to carry everything by myself.

Help me rest in Your presence and trust that You are at work, even when I cannot see it.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
