When worry tries to take the pen, let God write the next line

🌿 My Gentle Reflection
“So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
—Matthew 6:34 NSRV
I looked at my calendar and felt the ache.
Empty squares. Unanswered questions.
Bills. Deadlines. Silence.
I whispered, “How can I face my future?”
And I meant it.
Max Lucado once wrote that worry splits the mind between today and tomorrow.
I felt that split.
I couldn’t focus.
I couldn’t breathe.
I couldn’t trust.
But then I remembered:
God isn’t asking me to write the whole story.
He’s asking me to live the next line.
He knows what I need.
He knows where I’ll be.
He’s already in the pages I haven’t turned yet.
So I gave Him the pen.
I stopped trying to fix next week.
I started asking for grace for today.
And the fog began to lift.
✨ My Scripture of Hope
23 Our steps are made firm by the Lord
when he delights in our way;
24 though we stumble, we shall not fall headlong,
for the Lord holds us by the hand.
—Psalm 37:23–24 NSRV
🕊️ My Anxious Thoughts to Release
• I have to figure out everything ahead of time
• My future is too uncertain to feel safe
• God might forget to show up for me
🌸 God’s Promise to Me
• God knows what I need
• He is writing my story
• He will take care of me
• He holds me by the hand
🙏 My Prayer
God,
I’m tired of trying to write the ending.
I’m tired of worrying about what’s next.
Help me trust You with the unwritten pages.
Help me stay present in this moment.
You are the Author.
You are faithful.
You are near.
Amen
🧠 Gentle Tools for Taming My Thoughts
Inspired by God’s Story, Your Story, Chapter 3: You Find Your True Home, I used three mindset tools provided in Tame Your Thoughts to respond to worry with trust in God’s authorship.
1. 🛡️ Practice Picky Thinking
Journal Entry:
Worry whispered, “You’re not ready for what’s coming.”
I paused.
Is this true? No—God prepares me.
Is this kind? No—it overwhelms me.
Is this from God? No—He speaks peace.
I replaced it with: “God will help me when the time comes.” That shift felt like handing Him the pen.
2. 🏠 Remember Where You Belong
Journal Entry:
Same moment, same spiral.
I felt like I didn’t belong anywhere.
But Chapter 3 reminded me:
My true home isn’t in certainty—it’s in Christ.
I whispered, “I belong to You.”
That shift felt like being anchored.
3. 🌱 Uproot and Replant
Journal Entry:
That fear stirred up an old belief: “I have to control everything to be safe.”
I paused and chose to uproot it.
Is this true? No—God is in control.
Is this kind? No—it exhausts me.
Is this from God? No—He offers rest.
I replanted truth: “God holds my hand. I don’t have to write alone.” That shift felt like being held.
💡 Chapter 3 Insight: You Find Your True Home
Max Lucado reminds us that our story is part of God’s story and that our true home is in Him.
He writes:
“You are more than a passing guest. You are a child of the house. You belong.”
That truth changed how I breathe through uncertainty.
I don’t have to know the ending.
I just must trust the Author.
And remember where I belong.
