A faith-based devotional on finding peace before sleep through reflection, journaling, and prayer.

📖 Scripture Foundation
Sleep is more than rest. It’s trust.
- Psalm 4:8 – God gives peace and safety as we sleep.
- Matthew 11:28 – Jesus invites us to rest in Him.
- Ecclesiastes 3:1 – There’s a time for everything—even rest.
- Isaiah 26:3 – God keeps us in peace when our minds stay on Him.
🙏 Devotional Reflection
We rush. We strive. We rarely pause.
But sleep is God’s invitation to stop. It’s a holy shift—from doing to being. When we pause before sleep, we choose peace over pressure. We say, “God, I trust You to carry what I can’t.”
That pause is powerful. It’s where anxiety fades and faith grows.
💬 Personal Reflection
For years, I treated sleep like a battle I had to win. I’d lie in bed, staring at the ceiling, my mind racing through unfinished tasks, awkward conversations, and tomorrow’s worries. I’d scroll through my phone until my eyes burned, hoping distraction would lull me into rest. It never did.
One night, after a tough day, I couldn’t sleep at all. I cried in the car, snapped at someone I love, and felt like I was failing at everything. I crawled into bed feeling heavy. I whispered, “God, I don’t know how to rest.”
That night, something unexpected happened.
I remembered a verse from a long time ago —Psalm 4:8. I had not thought about it in years.
I opened my Bible and read:
“I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
I read it again, and again. Then I cried not out of frustration, but release. I realized I had been trying to carry everything myself. I did not pause. I did not trust it. I had not let God in.
So, I did something different. I turned off the lights. I put my phone away. I whispered a simple prayer: “Hold me tonight, Lord.” And I slept deeply, peacefully, like a child in her mother’s arms.
Since then, I have made a sacred ritual before sleeping. I light a candle. I journal my worries. I breathe in grace and exhale control. It is not always perfect, but it’s always holy.
Sleep is no longer a battle. It’s a surrender. And the pause is the shift.
