Navigating the Silence Within — Finding Light in Emotional Numbness and Spiritual Disconnection

Scripture Focus:
“How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?” — Psalm 13:1–2
✨ Devotional Commentary
There are days when you feel nothing.
Not joy. Not sorrow. Just blank.
Your emotions go quiet. Your spirit feels distant. Your body moves, but your soul feels paused.
This isn’t failure.
It’s part of being human.
It’s part of being neurodivergent.
It’s part of surviving.
Psalm 13 doesn’t rush past this.
It sits in it.
It asks the hard questions:
“How long, O Lord?”
God doesn’t flinch.
He doesn’t shame.
He stays.
Even when you feel nothing, He feels everything.
Even when you go quiet, He leans in.
💭 Personal Reflection
I’ve had times where I couldn’t feel God.
Not because I stopped believing.
Because I stopped feeling.
I’d sit in prayer and feel… nothing.
No comfort. No clarity. No connection.
Just silence.
I used to panic.
I thought I’d lost my faith.
I thought I’d disappointed God.
I thought I was broken.
But then I read Psalm 13.
And I saw that even David—the poet, the worshipper, the man after God’s own heart—had moments like this.
Moments where he asked, “Will you forget me forever?”
Moments where he felt abandoned.
Moments where he felt nothing.
And God didn’t leave him.
God stayed.
That changed everything for me.
I stopped trying to force emotion.
I stopped pretending to feel something I didn’t—and permitted myself to just be.
I started showing up honestly.
I’d say, “God, I don’t feel You today.”
And somehow, that felt like prayer.
I started trusting that God wasn’t waiting for me to be emotionally available.
He was already near.
Even in the numbness.
Even in the shutdown.
Even in the silence.
I still have days where I feel nothing.
But I don’t feel ashamed anymore.
Because I know God is still here.
And that’s enough.

📌 Keynote for Daily Living
Feeling nothing doesn’t mean God left. It means He’s staying quietly.
🙏 Closing Prayer
God,
I don’t feel much today.
But I still want You near.
Sit with me in the silence.
Stay with me in the numbness.
Remind me that I’m still Yours.
Amen.
